( 1 of 4 Leaders) KAREN KACZMAREK / "Miss Karen" (Troop Leader) ..... Hello! I am the Leader for our Brownie Troop #52326. I was also the Leader of RETIRED Plum Ambassador (12th Graders) Troop (#58427). I was in Girl Scouts when I was a young girl from my Brownie Girl Scout years through my Junior Girl Scout years. I re-joined Girl Scouts as an Adult in 2002 when my daughter, Sarah, joined as a Daisy Girl Scout within the Plum Service Unit (SU). Twelve years later Sarah was still active as an Ambassador Girl Scout. She has not only earned her Girl Scout Bronze Award but she has also earned her Girl Scout Silver Award! Throughout my years as an Adult Girl Scout I have served: as a Daisy Girl Scout Parent Volunteer; as a Daisy Girl Scout Co-Leader; as a Daisy Girl Scout Leader; as a Brownie Girl Scout Leader; as a Junior Girl Scout Co-Leader; as a Cadette Girl Scout Co-Leader; as a Cadette Girl Scout Leader; as a Senior Girl Scout Leader; and as an Ambassador Girl Scout Leader. So I have had experience with every age-level of the Girl Scout Program. I am currently the Junior Girl Scout Leader for the 2016-2017 Troop year and assist the other leaders with their levels. In June of 2015, I led a Girl Scout group (Girls, Moms, & a GSWPA membership manager) on a tour of Europe (Switzerland, England, Italy, and France) via via EF Tours! We had the special opporunity to participate in a Girl Scout pinning ceremony at both the WAGGGS Pax Lodge in England and the WAGGGS "Our Chalet" in Switzerland! While in Switzerland we also had the extra-special opportunity to stay two nights at "Our Chalet"! The 15-day trip was truly a wonderful and memorable trip and I am looking forward to leading another group in the near future! I have served, along with my daughter, as a Site Team Member for the Elliott Girl Scout Camp in Volant, PA to help keep the Camp "alive" & "healthy" for many future generations of Girl Scouts. I also serve on the Plum Borough Service Unit's "Twilight Camp" (an awesome 4-day Summer Girl Scout camp program) Committee for both 2014 and 2015. I am trained by the Girl Scouts in the many Girl Scout levels of outdoor camping. I am also trained as a Girl Scout Day Camp Volunteer. I also have taken training through the Catholic Diosese to be a Girl Scout Religious Awards facilitator. I am also a trained/certified Level I First Responder through my job at Vocollect-by-Honeywell in Penn Hills, PA. At Vocollect-by-Honeywell, I work full time on staff as a Senior Accountant. At work I am also very active in volunteering! I serve on the Social Committe and the First Responders Team. I am also usually one of the first people to sign-up to volunteer my work day in service at the Pittsburgh Food Bank and to donate blood when the Red Cross comes to our offices. I grew up in Penn Hills, PA, where I graduated from Penn Hills High School with High Honors. I then moved to Plum Borough, PA in 1994 after I met and married my husband, Michael (who is also from Penn Hills). I received my A.S. Degree in Accounting from CCAC-Boyce Campus, where I served as President for the Honors "Fraternity" of Phi Theta Kappa. I then continued on to receive my B.S. Degree in Accounting from La Roche College (from which I graduated while at the time was 8 1/2 months pregnant with my son). We have two children: Sarah, who is 19 years old (Freshman at Seton Hill College) and Bryan, who is 15 years old. We also have two adopted Labrador Retrievors, Coleman (3 1/2 years old) & Cali, our newest "puppy" (2 1/2 years old). I enjoy camping; horseback riding; swimming; Girl Scouting; the beach; boating; world traveling; hiking; reading; listening to classical music; reading Steven King Novels; dancing; making crafts; watching professional Hockey (Pittsburgh Penguins!); and most importantly, spending time with my family (including the "furry kids"). I enjoy helping to train Girls to lead, especially through service. I also enjoy helping Girls to understand and experience their world through the Girl Scout program. This journey in Girl Scouting, for me, has been and continues to be so incredibly challenging, amazing, and rewarding. I hope to continue helping within the Girl Scouts program as long as I am capable to do so!
